Don't Use LinkedIn For Learning

66 Days of Math and Programming -- Day 59

Today I’m feeling a bit lazy. Don’t hate me.

But I already wrote something cool today. Since most people post educational content on LinkedIn, it made me wonder whether people prioritize learning over networking on the platform.

I don’t know the answer.

But for those who do (if you psychos exist), stop it.

Seriously.

I’ll come over and make you stop if I have to.

Anyway, I want to share the post I wrote. So read it on LinkedIn here or continue reading below…

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this.

---------------------------------------------

If you're on LinkedIn to learn, don't talk to me.

I'm serious.

You're in the wrong place.

Doing the wrong thing.

"Learning sucks on LinkedIn..." Happy? I said it.

You'll never scroll through your feed and learn efficiently. You're better off opening up a book and reading. That's why my focus is different.

Instead, I focus on:

-Meeting cool people

-Reading cool stories

-Writing cool stories

Look. Do I sometimes learn from the posts and people on here? Yes. All the time. It's a bonus.

But that's not the goal when I open the app.

I'm not thinking, "oh what am I gonna learn here today???"

That mindset gives you tunnel vision. It forces you to look for value in every post and profile.

And do you know what you miss?

All the cool things people do.

But where's the fun in that? The LinkedIn experience is best when you sit back and enjoy yourself.

This isn't me saying learning isn't fun.

I love it more than you.

But there's a time and a place to learn. Just not here.

And at the end of the day, LinkedIn is still a social network.

Notice the word "social."

So stop worrying about learning here. Just meet cool people and have fun.
